If your affinity for all things small, shiny and functional is as developed as mine you might find this interesting. The Bug Labs BUGbase, is a general purpose “computer” to be used as a starting point on which you can build anything you want using the add-ons that are also sold by bug labs and of course, it runs Linux. You can add additional modules to the base such as a 2MP Camera, GPS Module, 2″ LCD, and a motion detector!
The gadget is open source and can be programmed in Java with the BugLabs SDK.

Ever wonder how you might die? A morbid mental flight but we all have thought about it at one time or another. I came across this diagram of how we are likely to die. So if you knock off the 3 big killers there is no reason you can’t live to be 120 years old.
This is a really cool video clip of a ‘Zombie Attack’ from a helicopter using infrared camera. From what I can gather on the net, this was a PR “viral video” for an upcoming zombie movie. They are speaking russian! 28 Years later?
I love these prophetic videos detailing the future of interactive media, but I can’t help but note they almost all end with our own submission to the idea of “the machine.” Kind of morbid.
Listio is an awesome service that I recently discovered which catalogs all the Web 2.0 Applications there currently are. Sometimes a certain task is just better suited to be done through a web interface(Which is what Web 2.0 really is) and Listio has made an awesome catalog of all these Web 2.0 Apps, you can also vote on them to distinguish them best in class! Check it out at Listio.com! Developers, you can also submit your Web 2.0 applications for rating as well!
Ever forget you are watching recorded content, ans subsequently watch recorded advertisements? This collosal waste of time and precious technology steals hours of your time each year. You are sufferering from DVR Dementia, the newest affliction to affect those fortunate enough to have access to a DVR, either a Tivo or the generic one provided by a cable company. The best thing to do is get into the habit of automatically pressing fast forward when commericals begin to air. However this is lead to another sort of disorder know as fast-forward finger in which one attempts to fast forward live content and is subsequently let down. I say just time shoft ALL of your TV content and never watch live TV again!
As some of you know, I got a new job over at Dreamhost, hosting dreams and such. So far things have gotten off to a very good start. The only thing that is getting me down is the commute to Brea, which has helped me catch up on some interesting podcasts. Below are some scenes from my daily activities at Dreamhost, including the delicious snack factory! Also, if you are in need of hosting check out Dreamhost.com and enter the code NICKP85 and you will save $85 on L1 1 or 2 year hosting plans! There is really no reason to pay full price when you know someone who works there!
